ICAO and IATA undertook many actions to improve the level of safety.

The implementation of a safety management system (SMS), directly related to the risk management and thus to the experience feedback sharing, is compulsory for all the ICAO operators from January 1, 2009.

Most of the national regulations are not yet published.

It is also one of the IOSA standards since July 2009.
